Michters Toasted BarrelMichter’s Distillery, located in the bourbon belt of Louisville, Kentucky, is known for releasing some interesting American whiskies. One of the latest, said to be available on a limited basis, is its new US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon.

The distillery said for this bottling it barrel aged its usual bourbon to full maturation and then transferred it to a special custom barrel for finishing. What makes this particular barrel so special is that while it was constructed from wood staves that have been cured by 18 months of air-drying, it was toasted for a precise amount of time, but never charred like a typical bourbon barrel.

Michter’s US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon, bottled at 45.7% ABV, prices for around $48. It has proved pretty popular at retail so far, selling out on at least one craft spirits website. There should still be at least a few bottles floating around out there though if this type of double barreled bourbon appeals to your palate.
