Tasting Notes:

About:

The newest addition to the Angel’s Envy range sees the brand’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in a fun combination of Hungarian oak, Chinkapin oak, and French oak barrels.

Appearance:

Honeycomb

Nose:

Smoked applewood, burnt brown sugar

Palate:

The front palate is an immediate sweet and delicate salted caramel and bread pudding. It moves quickly to a strong mid-palate with flavors of red apples, baked plums, vanilla pudding, and oak.

Finish:

The finish is lengthy, but not overwhelming. There are notes of nutmeg, confectioner’s sugar, pipe tobacco, and cinnamon-topped apple sauce.

Comments:

Overall, this whiskey drinks like freshly baked bread pudding, a perfect addition to the Angel’s Envy core range, and the perfect dram heading into the fall. It captures all of the notes of the season and the triple oak finishing is complimentary to the entire spectrum of flavors without any one finish dominating the others. The oak notes are present but are in no way overwhelming, and provide a strong structure that lingers throughout the transition from front-mid-and back palate but vanishes by the finish.

How Does The Angel’s Envy Triple Oak Differ From The Brand’s Flagship Bourbon?

Angel’s Envy’s flagship bourbon is the Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished In Port Wine Casks. This is a rather experimental cask finish for a core range bottling, let alone for a flagship expression. However, the Port Wine Cask Finish bourbon from Angel’s Envy received a fantastic reception.

The whiskey is full of dried fruits, stone fruits, vanilla, and chocolate, all tied together with a lingering hint of Madeira wine.

By contrast, the Angel’s Envy Triple Oak is matured in three different types of oak from three different locations. This expression focuses, not on a wine or spirit finish, but on exploring oak categories. As a result, the whiskey is rich with spice and flavors of baked sweet goods.

According to the brand press release, “With this release, the brand now has representation in three popular finishing categories: wine and fermented finish with Angel’s Envy Bourbon, spirits finish with Angel’s Envy Rye, and now, oak finish.”

How Is The Whiskey Best Enjoyed?

In celebration of the launch of the Triple Oak expression, the Global Ambassador of Brand Education has created a new cocktail named the Golden Oak:

Combine 1.5 oz of Angel’s Envy Triple Oak with 4.5 oz of Dry Sparkling Apple Cider in a chilled highball glass.
Add ice and stir until chilled.
Garnish with a long lemon peel.
Enjoy!

Angel’s Envy Triple Oak will be available for purchase across the US beginning on October 1st. Selected stores and retailers will stock the bottle, and it will also be available on angelsenvy.com for an SRP of $74.99.

Whiskey fans in Louisville and the surrounding areas will be able to purchase the bottle early, as a limited number will be stocked at the Angel’s Envy Distillery in downtown Louisville from tomorrow (September 14th).
