Editor’s Note: We received a review sample of this whiskey from the brand. However, in accordance with our editorial policies, this has not influenced the outcome of our review in any way.
Two primary lines exist for Outsider at the moment. JYPSI The Legacy Series focuses on “sourcing individual well-aged whiskey components from various origins and using cross-category blending to reconstruct a traditional mash bill rather than blending the grains before fermentation.” The other, JYPSI The Explorer Series, is “based on the harmony of unparalleled six-year aged whiskeys and unique finishing woods from around the globe.”
What’s in the bottle
The whiskey being reviewed here, Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 002: The Alchemist, builds on Batch 001’s approach of cross-category blending to create reconstructed mash bills. It features three whiskeys—each over ten years old—from three different countries and the added element of a triple-barrel finish for the rye.
“When I write a song or put a band together, a lot of times you think – do all these things really work together? And you don’t really know until you get on stage,” Church said at the time of this whiskey’s release. “The same is true with making whiskey. You have ideas, but don’t know until you try them. But we’ve found out…the more fearless we are, the better our whiskey is. ‘The Alchemist’ is the perfect representation of that fearless spirit, and I’m really proud of where we’ve landed.”
Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 002: The Alchemist is bottled at 114.3 proof and priced at $199.99.
