Jack Daniel's 12-Year-Old review

Tasting Notes

About:

12-year-old Tennessee whiskey; mash bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye; bottled at 107 proof and priced at $94.99.
Appearance:
The extra two years in the barrel compared to the 10-year-old show in the color, reflecting an even darker amber. Viscosity and legs are solid also.
Nose:
The sweetness in the aromatics is forward but very mellow, giving to the nose notes of vanilla, oak, dried cherries, toffee, walnuts, and a little nod of butterscotch.
Palate:
Nice and mellow, this is a pleasant palate pleasure, reflecting some sweet vanilla, dried spice, oak, almond butter, a sharp cherry bite, and a bit of mushroom.
Finish:
This finishes a little sweeter and a lot dryer, almost pucker-worthy, ending in a moderate wind down.
Comments:
Jack Daniel’s 12-Year-Old Batch 2 showcases itself as a stage up from the 10-Year-Old Batch 3, reflecting a more tightly integrated tasting experience. It is still a touch-off for me on the finish, but that’s not as big of a deal for this expression.
