Rosebank Distillery To Welcome Visitors In Summer 2024

‘King of the Lowlands’, Rosebank Distillery, is preparing to welcome visitors for the first time in over three decades.

‘King of the Lowlands’, Rosebank Distillery, is preparing to welcome visitors for the first time in over three decades. 

Spirit flowed from the stills once more in June 2023 following a multi-year restoration project. In June 2024, 12 months after reopening, the distillery will open its doors to the public for distillery tours. 

Renovating Rosebank

Ian Macleod Distillers purchased Rosebank Distillery in 2017, with plans to restore the distillery to its former glory. Of the distillery’s revival, Leonard Russell, Managing Director of Ian Macleod Distillers said, “I could see that Rosebank Distillery was held in extremely high regard and it was a huge shame that it closed when it was distilling some of the best spirit for the Scotch whisky industry. Being small, Rosebank was one of the more expensive whiskies to produce, but in my view that’s no reason to close a distillery. Its reopening will be a very special moment for its hometown of Falkirk, for the Scotch industry, and for whisky lovers everywhere”. 

The new distillery has been meticulously renovated, making use of the old mill building next to the canal, which is thought to be over 100 years old. Old is blended with new with the construction of the new glass stillhouse.

The still house is home to Rosebank’s new stills, exact copies of the stills that were stolen from Rosebank during its period of closure. These replica stills will be used to produce Rosebank’s signature style of whisky that has been long lamented amongst lowland whisky fans. 

Towering over the distillery is the 108-ft chimney that became synonymous with Rosebank during its lifetime. The chimney has been passionately restored and is once again standing against the skyline of Falkirk. 

From June 2024, Rosebank fans will be able to experience the architecture and whisky-making process firsthand, thanks to the new Rosebank visitor experience. 

Tours At Rosebank Distillery

There will be three different tours on offer at the new distillery: 

  • Rosebank Reawakening – £25 per person – A guided tour and a tasting of Glengoyne 12 Year Old and Tamdhu 12 Year Old (also owned by Ian Macleod Distillers). 
  • Rosebank Rekindled – £95 per person – A guided tour and a tasting of Rosebank 31 Year Old, Glengoyne 15 Year Old, and Tamdhy 15 Year Old.  
  • Rosebank Revered – £300 per person – A guided tour and a tasting of three rare and exclusive Rosebank expressions. 

Following a tour, guests will be invited to peruse the Rosebank Distillery shop, which will sell exclusive expressions not available at retail.
