The 5-year aged, Devil’s Sister’s Kentucky Whiskey is blended and bottled by Two Eagles Distillery in Mount Prospect, Illinois. “Sinfully Smooth,” and “Give into Temptation Tonight” are two taglines you are presented with when visiting the brand’s website. In fact, Devil’s Sister leans pretty heavily into the sin metaphor throughout its messaging. Fair enough. In the ever-more-crowded whiskey market, differentiating a brand is no easy task. From both the language, visuals, and price point, the creators behind Devil’s Sister appear to be targeting the nightclub scene.
When we asked Devil’s Sister to elaborate on the brand’s focus, a spokesperson said, “The goal is to create a solid spirit at a reasonable price that is great for cocktails.” And that they, “[B]lend a variety of whiskeys, flavor, proof, and bottle the spirit.” Not unlike many other whiskeys produced throughout the world, the mash bill is undisclosed, with the spokesperson stating, “We use a variety of whiskeys with mash bills of 100% wheat, 100% corn, and 93/7 corn/MB. Determining the net would be difficult.”
Tasting Notes: Devil’s Sister’s Kentucky Whiskey
Vital Stats: Aged five years. 80 Proof, 40% ABV. Mash Bill: Undisclosed. MSRP $29.99
Appearance: The whiskey is a visually thin, pale straw and light pastel yellow.
Nose: A subtle and pleasant nose, with just a hint of smoke swirled together with mellow sugar.
Palate: On first sip, the whiskey presents a fairly rounded blend between sweet and smooth. I only detect a slight bit of smoke, but nothing approaching the “pronounced smokiness” advertised on the bottle. The mid-mouth feel is a little bright, and the finish is warm with a lingering caramel note.
