New Releases: Milam & Greene, Daniel Weller, 15 STARS, and Ammunition

Whiskey distilleries in America have been busy. We have a whole host of recent releases including a single barrel bourbon from Milam & Greene and a range of experimental wheat bourbons from Daniel Weller. 15 STARS have released a private stock bourbon, and a cask strength expression from Ammunition.

Milam & Greene Golden Eagle Single Barrel Bourbon

Milam & Greene Whiskey has announced the first 2024 release from the highly sought-after Wildlife Bourbon Collection. Named ‘The Golden Eagle’, this release is set to build on the success of its predecessor, which sold out within hours.

The whiskey was distilled in Tennessee from a mash bill comprising 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. It was then aged in Tennessee for almost seven years, before being transferred to Texas to mature for a further two years. It was then bottled in February 2024 at 64.1% ABV.

Tasting notes include cherry, brown sugar, black tea, marzipan, crème brûlée, and almond, with a lingering mint chocolate finish and viscous mouthfeel.

The first whiskey in Milam & Greene’s 2024 Wildlife Collection, The Golden Eagle celebrates Texas’s avian wildlife. The Golden Eagle is the largest eagle found in North America and can be seen swooping over Texas.

Milam & Greene’s Golden Eagle whiskey can be purchased exclusively on the Milam & Greene website.

Daniel Weller Emmer Wheat

Buffalo Trace Distillery introduced Daniel Weller, an experimental line of wheated bourbons. This new collection pays homage to one of America’s whiskey forefathers, Daniel Weller.

Daniel Weller, grandfather of William Larue (W.L.) Weller, has a rich history that traces back to the post-Revolutionary War era. After relocating to Kentucky in 1794, Daniel followed his father’s footsteps in producing whiskey, which he leased to others to supplement his income. On his demise in 1807 without a will, his son Samuel procured his distilling equipment to continue the family legacy, eventually passing it down to W.L. Weller, founder of W.L. Weller & Sons.

Buffalo Trace, which produces the Weller brand, has crafted this line using a variety of wheat strains. The first release is made with Emmer wheat, an ancient Egyptian grain that is very rarely used in distillation today.

The Daniel Weller Emmer Wheat is 11 years old, bottled at 94 proof. It is available across the US for an RRP of $499.99.

15 STARS 15 Year Old Private Stock Fine Aged Bourbon & First West Rye Whiskey

15 STARS Fine-Aged Bourbon has announced the release of its 8&15 Year Private Stock and the second batch of its award-winning First West Rye.

The 8&15 year old bourbon is an update on the previous 7&15 year old expression from 15 STARS. The new bourbon is bottled at 53.5% ABV and is a blend of Kentucky bourbons aged for 8 and 15 years. Tasting notes include “toffee, fudge, fruit cake, and honeycomb.”

The First West Rye pays tribute to America’s “First West” distilling region, centered on Kentucky in 1795. This established expression was bottled at 52.5% ABV and features notes of candied fruit, herbal spice, and almonds.

Each bottle from 15 STARS features a classic metal stopper inspired by the first U.S. coinage, symbolizing the enduring craftsmanship of early America.

Both expressions can be purchased via the 15 STARS website for $139 (8&15) and $89 (First West) respectively.

Ammunition Cask Strength Bourbon

Ammunition Wine + Whiskey has unveiled its newest offering: Ammunition Cask Strength Bourbon.

The whiskey was distilled from a mash bill comprising 70% corn, 20% wheat, and 10% rye. It was then aged for four years before being finished for six months in Cabernet Sauvignon French Oak casks.

Drinkers can expect notes of caramel, butterscotch, and vanilla. With an RRP of $79.99, the bottle can be purchased via Ammunition Wine + Whiskey’s website.
