Minnesota now has at least one new native whiskey to call its own. Panther Distillery, based in the city of Osakis, is said to be this state’s first legal whiskey distillery, and what it is has produced is called Minnesota 14.
Panther’s first aged whiskey, Minnesota 14 rested for nearly two years in American white oak barrels after first being distilled from a mash made from Minnesota grown corn and later “tempered by the Minnesota climate.” The distillers there tie this latter item to the colder it being, the better it makes for ideal conditions for whiskey aging.

Minnesota 14 is said to be made in small batches, with the first run being a little over 14,000 bottles. Tasting notes from the distillery were not readily available from Panther at the time this story was published, but since it is on the young side, expect it to be something rather unique.
